ACM Rant

I didn't get a chance to see all of the Academy of Country Music Awards but, from what I saw, the highlight was Brad and Alabama performing at the start of the show and everything went downhill from there apart from a few other bright spots, like Sara Evans and Martina's performances.

I didn't see the point of Steven Tyler and Rihanna being on the show at all. Are Sugarland releasing that song with Rihanna? Are Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler going to release 'Walk This Way'? Also, do you really think they pulled in many viewers? I think names like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, etc is enough to pull in ratings. Do you think Rihanna and Aerosmith fans are going to tune in to a Country awards show just to see them? Also, as much as I liked the Zac Brown Band with James Taylor, that also seemed a bit pointless. At least Brad and Alabama made sense, as that's Brad's current single at country radio.

As for the entertainer of the year, I agree with Kenny Chesney's comments from a few years back when he said he didn't feel it should be fan voted category. I am a fan of all the nominees on Facebook, and my feed on the day of the awards was filled with Brad, Taylor, Toby, Jason, Keith and Miranda all asking 'vote for me!'... well the people that run their Facebook pages anyway. And, to be honest, I did vote and I voted for Brad Paisley as I felt he was the most deserving. I would still be saying this if Brad had won, but I feel that it's turned that category into a popularity contest. The fans have their own awards show now, the ACA's, and its right that they do, so let's hand the entertainer of the year category back to the Academy to vote on.

All in all, I think George Strait had the right idea by giving this one a miss.

RADIO CAMELOT LAUNCHES MARATHON WEEKEND IN MEMORY OF LATE MEMBER

Radio Camelot, the station that has broadcasted to the patients of Yeovil District Hospital since 1973, is about to embark on the most ambitious ‘marathon weekend’ in it’s 38 year history and they do so with a former colleague very much in their thoughts.

‘Marge Ellingham was in many ways the heart and soul of Radio Camelot’, says Public Relations Officer David Lovell, ‘She was the kind of volunteer who got things happening and she left an irreplaceable void’. ‘She was sadly too ill to take part in our last marathon, playing the 500 greatest songs according to Rolling Stone Magazine, and we lost her in April of last year. I wish she was here to see this, and the progress the station has made’.

From 12pm on Saturday afternoon till 10pm on Monday night during the May Day weekend, Radio Camelot will be playing the top ten hits from every year, since the singles charts was first started in 1952 through to last year. ‘It was November 1952 that the first singles chart was compiled, as prior to that the charts were based on sheet music, and I think there will certainly be a few surprises along the way during our 58 hours on air!’, Lovell says.

‘There’s certainly a lot of Cliff, and every time we play him we will know that Marge is smiling down, as she was a big fan’.
